Description
A delicious and elegant appetizer featuring creamy baked brie paired with sweet roasted plums and fresh thyme, all wrapped in flaky puff pastry.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 plums, sliced
- 2 tablespoons salted butter
- 3 tablespoons real maple syrup
- 2 sprigs fresh thyme, plus more for serving
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 1 (8-ounce) wheel brie cheese
- 1 rounded tablespoon fig jam or preserves
- 1 egg, beaten
- Coarse sugar, for sprinkling
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a baking dish, combine sliced plums, butter, maple syrup, and thyme. Roast for 20–25 minutes until caramelized.
- Place thawed puff pastry on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Set brie in the center.
- Trim a bit of the rind off the top of the brie (leave sides and bottom intact).
- Spread fig jam over the exposed top of the brie.
- Fold the puff pastry corners over the brie, sealing tightly.
- Brush the pastry with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sugar.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, until pastry is golden brown.
- Cool slightly. Spoon roasted plums over the baked brie and garnish with extra thyme.
- Serve warm with bread, crackers, or fresh fruit.
Notes
- You can substitute fig jam with apricot or cherry preserves.
- Use firm but ripe plums for best texture after roasting.
- Let the baked brie rest 5–10 minutes before slicing to prevent overflow.
- This dish is best enjoyed fresh but leftovers can be reheated gently in the oven.
- Avoid the microwave when reheating to preserve the pastry’s crispness.
