Description

Chicken Parmesan is a classic Italian-American dish featuring breaded chicken breasts topped with marinara sauce and melted mozzarella cheese, garnished with fresh basil.


Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish
  • Olive oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Place the chicken breasts between two sheets of plastic wrap and pound them to an even thickness of about 1/2 inch.
  3. Set up a breading station: In one shallow dish, place the flour. In a second dish, beat the eggs. In a third dish, combine the breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  4. Dredge each chicken breast in flour, shaking off the excess, then dip into the beaten eggs, and finally coat with the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
  5. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the breaded chicken breasts and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. You may need to do this in batches.
  6. Transfer the cooked chicken to a baking dish. Spoon marinara sauce over each piece, then sprinkle with shredded mozzarella cheese.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, allow the chicken to marinate in the seasoning for 30 minutes before breading.
  • Serve with pasta or a side salad for a complete meal.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
