Description
Classic Bangers and Mash is a traditional British dish consisting of juicy pork sausages served over creamy mashed potatoes with rich onion gravy.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 pork sausages (bangers)
- 2 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 cup milk or cream
- 2 large yellow onions
- 2 cups beef broth
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add sausages and cook for 10–12 minutes, turning to brown evenly. Transfer to a plate and keep warm.
- Peel and cube potatoes. Boil in salted water for 15–20 minutes until fork tender. Drain, then mash with butter and milk until creamy. Season with salt and pepper.
- In the same skillet, add sliced onions. Cook on medium-low heat for 10–15 minutes until soft and golden. Sprinkle flour, stir well, then gradually whisk in beef broth. Simmer until thickened into a smooth gravy.
- Plate the mashed potatoes, place sausages on top, and drizzle with onion gravy. Garnish with parsley if desired.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use cream instead of milk.
- Feel free to add more spices to the mashed potatoes for extra flavor.
- Leftover gravy can be stored in the refrigerator for a few days.
