Description
Deliciously flaky pastry straws filled with cream cheese, cranberry sauce, and a hint of orange zest.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 sheet of puff pastry, thawed
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup cranberry sauce
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare the pastry: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry to smooth it. Cut into strips about 1 inch wide and 6 inches long.
- Mix the filling: In a medium bowl, combine cream cheese, cranberry sauce, orange zest, and sugar until smooth and creamy.
- Assemble the straws: Spoon a small amount of filling at one end of each pastry strip, then fold over and seal the edges with a fork to form a filled pocket.
- Brush with egg wash: Lightly brush the tops with the beaten egg for a shiny golden finish.
- Bake: Arrange on the baking sheet and bake for 15–20 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.
- Cool and serve: Let cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
- For best results, ensure the cream cheese is softened completely for easy mixing.
- Experiment with different jams or preserves for unique flavors.
