Description
A delicious and creamy twist on the classic grilled cheese, featuring mashed avocado and melted cheddar.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 slices bread
- 1 ripe avocado
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 slices cheddar cheese
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Start by gathering all of your ingredients: 2 slices of bread, 1 ripe avocado, 2 tablespoons of butter, 2 slices of cheddar cheese, 1 teaspoon of lemon juice, 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1/4 teaspoon of salt, and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper.
- Take the ripe avocado and carefully slice it in half. Remove the pit and scoop the avocado flesh into a small bowl.
- Mash the avocado with a fork until it reaches a smooth, creamy consistency.
- Add 1 teaspoon of lemon juice to the mashed avocado and mix well.
- Stir in 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1/4 teaspoon of salt, and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper into the mashed avocado.
- Set the avocado mixture aside while you prepare the rest of the ingredients.
- Place a frying pan or griddle on the stove over medium heat to warm up.
- Take the 2 slices of bread and spread 1 tablespoon of butter on one side of each slice, ensuring the butter covers the entire surface evenly.
- Once the pan is heated, place the slice of bread with the buttered side down onto the pan.
- Immediately place 1 slice of cheddar cheese on top of the bread in the pan.
- Take the second slice of bread and butter one side as you did with the first slice.
- Carefully place the buttered side of the second slice of bread on top of the cheese, so the buttered sides of both bread slices are facing out.
- Let the sandwich cook for about 3 to 4 minutes, or until the bottom slice of bread turns golden brown and crispy.
- Using a spatula, flip the sandwich over carefully and cook the other side for an additional 3 to 4 minutes, until the second side is also golden brown and the cheese is melted.
- Once the sandwich is toasted to your liking and the cheese is gooey, remove it from the pan.
- Let the sandwich cool for a minute or two so the cheese doesn’t burn you when you cut it.
- Slice the sandwich in half and spread the creamy mashed avocado mixture generously onto one of the halves.
- Place the other half of the sandwich on top, with the mashed avocado facing in.
- Serve immediately while the sandwich is warm and the cheese is still gooey.
Notes
- Feel free to add other toppings like tomatoes or bacon for extra flavor.
- Use different types of cheese if desired, such as mozzarella or gouda.
- This sandwich is best enjoyed fresh but can be kept in an airtight container for a day.
