- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese or mozzarella, pepper jack, or a blend
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ cup panko breadcrumbs (optional, for extra crunch)
- 2 tablespoons cooked bacon bits (optional)
- 1 fresh jalapeño (optional, thinly sliced)
- 1 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) or your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
- Line a baking sheet or air fryer tray with parchment paper.
- Cut onions into ¼-inch thick rounds and carefully separate the layers into individual rings.
- Lay the onion rings flat on the prepared tray and fill the center of each ring with shredded cheese, keeping it within the ring.
- Sprinkle garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper evenly over the rings. Add breadcrumbs, bacon bits, or jalapeños if using.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes or until cheese is bubbling and edges are crispy, or air fry for 8–10 minutes, checking around the 7-minute mark.
- Let the chips rest for 2–3 minutes before removing from the tray and serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
