  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup panko breadcrumbs (optional, for extra crunch)
  • 2 tablespoons cooked bacon bits (optional)
  • 1 fresh jalapeño (optional, thinly sliced)
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) or your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet or air fryer tray with parchment paper.
  3. Cut onions into ¼-inch thick rounds and carefully separate the layers into individual rings.
  4. Lay the onion rings flat on the prepared tray and fill the center of each ring with shredded cheese, keeping it within the ring.
  5. Sprinkle garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper evenly over the rings. Add breadcrumbs, bacon bits, or jalapeños if using.
  6. Bake for 12–15 minutes or until cheese is bubbling and edges are crispy, or air fry for 8–10 minutes, checking around the 7-minute mark.
