- 4 cups peeled and diced apples
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 packet pectin (optional for thickening)
Instructions
- Combine diced apples, water, and lemon juice in a large pot. Cook over medium heat until tender.
- Add granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract. Stir to combine.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 30–40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- If using, stir in the pectin and cook for an additional 5 minutes until thickened.
- Pour the jam into sterilized jars and seal. Allow to cool before storing in the refrigerator.
Notes
Stir often to prevent sticking. Use ripe but firm apples for best results. Adjust sweetness based on taste.
