Description

A simple and delicious recipe for garlic naan bread, perfect for pairing with your favorite dishes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup yogurt (plain, unsweetened)
  • 1/4 cup warm water (adjust as needed)
  • 2 tablespoons ghee or butter (melted)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • Fresh cilantro or parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Mix well until the dry ingredients are evenly distributed.
  2. Add the yogurt to the dry ingredients and start mixing it in with your hands until crumbly.
  3. Gradually add warm water, a little at a time, until the dough starts to come together. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  4. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 30 minutes. This allows the gluten to relax and makes the naan softer.
  5. After the resting period, divide the dough into 6-8 equal portions and shape them into balls.
  6. On a floured surface, roll out each ball into an oval shape approximately 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Heat a heavy skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
  8. Brush one side of the rolled naan with melted ghee or butter and sprinkle minced garlic on top.
  9. Place the naan in the hot skillet, garlic side down, and cook for about 1-2 minutes or until bubbles start to form.
  10. Flip the naan over and cook for another 1-2 minutes, until the other side is golden brown and slightly charred.
  11. Remove from the skillet and brush with more melted ghee or butter. Garnish with freshly chopped cilantro or parsley.
  12. Repeat the process for the remaining dough balls.

Notes

  • Serve the naan warm with a side of yogurt or curry.
  • Garnish with additional parsley or cilantro for a pop of color.
