Description

Crispy fried mushrooms coated in a flavorful beer batter, perfect as a snack or appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, divided
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup beer (preferably a lighter-colored beer like a lager or Belgian-style wheat ale)
  • 1 pound small white button mushrooms, cleaned
  • Oil, for frying
  • Chopped parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mushrooms: Gently clean the mushrooms by wiping them with a damp paper towel. Trim the ends if necessary.
  2. Set Up the Coating Stations: Place 1/2 cup of flour in a shallow bowl. In a separate bowl, whisk together the remaining 1 cup of flour, salt, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper. Gradually add the beer, whisking until a smooth batter forms.
  3. Coat the Mushrooms: Dredge each mushroom in the plain flour, shaking off any excess. Dip the floured mushrooms into the beer batter, ensuring they are fully coated.
  4. Fry the Mushrooms: Heat oil in a deep pot or fryer to 350°F (175°C). Carefully place a few battered mushrooms into the hot oil, avoiding overcrowding. Fry for 3-4 minutes, or until golden brown, turning occasionally for even cooking. Use a slotted spoon to remove the mushrooms and drain them on paper towels.
  5. Serve: Transfer the fried mushrooms to a serving platter. Garnish with chopped parsley. Serve immediately with your choice of dipping sauces, such as ranch dressing, barbecue sauce, ketchup, honey mustard, or warm marinara sauce.

Notes

  • Use small white button mushrooms for the best texture.
  • Ensure the oil is at the correct temperature for effective frying.
  • Experiment with different dipping sauces based on your preference.
