Description

A gourmet twist on the classic grilled cheese featuring rich Havarti cheese and fresh ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 slices of sourdough bread
  • 8 ounces Havarti cheese, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 cup fresh arugula
  • 1/4 cup caramelized onions
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Spread softened butter on one side of each slice of sourdough bread.
  3. On the unbuttered side of two slices, spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard.
  4. Layer the Havarti cheese evenly on top of the mustard, followed by the caramelized onions and fresh arugula. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Top with the remaining slices of bread, buttered side facing out.
  6. Place the sandwiches in the preheated skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  7. Remove from the skillet, slice in half, and serve warm.

Notes

  • For a more intense flavor, try adding freshly cracked black pepper or herbs.
  • You can substitute the arugula with spinach for a different taste.
