Description

A spicy and crunchy take on classic mozzarella sticks using Hot Cheetos for an extra kick.


Ingredients

  • 1 bag (8.5 ounces / 6 cups) flaming hot Cheetos, crushed (about 3 cups)
  • 12 mozzarella string cheese sticks, cut in half
  • ½ cup (62.5 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • Parsley, chopped, for garnish
  • Ranch or blue cheese dressing, for dipping

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) or heat oil for frying in a deep pan or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Set up a breading station: in one bowl, place the flour, kosher salt, and garlic powder. In another bowl, whisk the eggs. In a third bowl, place the crushed Hot Cheetos.
  3. Dip each mozzarella stick into the flour mixture, then into the egg wash, and finally coat with the crushed Hot Cheetos.
  4. If baking, arrange the coated mozzarella sticks on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes or until golden and crispy.
  5. If frying, carefully lower the mozzarella sticks into the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve immediately with ranch or blue cheese dressing for dipping.

Notes

  • Make sure to freeze the mozzarella sticks for 30 minutes before cooking to prevent the cheese from melting too quickly.
  • For extra heat, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the Hot Cheetos mixture.
