Description
Korean Sloppy Joes are a delicious twist on the classic sloppy joe, featuring Korean flavors with gochujang and sesame.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef (or ground turkey)
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1/2 cup green onions, chopped
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- 4 hamburger buns
- Sliced cucumbers and kimchi for serving
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing for 2-3 minutes until the onion is translucent.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the gochujang, soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, and rice vinegar. Mix well and let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
- Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
- Toast the hamburger buns lightly, then spoon the Korean sloppy joe mixture onto the bottom half of each bun. Top with sliced cucumbers and a side of kimchi, if desired. Place the top half of the bun on each sandwich.
- Serve immediately and enjoy the fusion of flavors!
Notes
- You can substitute ground turkey for a leaner option.
- Feel free to adjust the amount of gochujang to your spice preference.
- Kimchi adds a great crunch and flavor to the sandwich.
