Ingredients
Scale
- 315 grams all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 0.5 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 0.5 teaspoon salt
- 113 grams unsalted butter, softened
- 150 grams granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 180 milliliters buttermilk
- Brown Butter Maple Vanilla Bean Glaze
- 113 grams unsalted butter
- 180 grams powdered sugar
- 30 milliliters pure maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste or vanilla extract
- 15–30 milliliters milk, for thinning as needed
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 175°C and lightly grease a 23×33 cm rectangular baking pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, ground nutmeg, and salt until evenly mixed.
- In a large bowl, beat softened butter with granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Incorporate eggs one at a time, blending well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract.
- Alternately add the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the creamed mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix just until batter is smooth and homogeneous.
- Transfer the batter to the prepared baking pan and smooth the surface. Bake for 22 to 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center emerges clean. Cool completely in the pan.
- In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat, cooking until the solids turn golden and emit a nutty aroma. Remove from heat.
- Whisk in powdered sugar, maple syrup, and vanilla bean paste until the glaze is completely smooth. Thin with milk as needed for desired consistency.
- Pour the glaze evenly over the cooled bars. Allow the glaze to set, then cut into individual portions and serve.
Notes
- Ensure that the butter is softened for easier mixing.
- Adjust the glaze thickness with milk to your preference.
