Description

One Pan Sausage and Orzo is a quick and flavorful dish that combines Italian sausage, orzo pasta, and fresh vegetables, all cooked in one pan for easy cleanup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound Italian sausage (mild or spicy, your choice)
  • 1 cup orzo pasta
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 1 zucchini, diced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 3 cups chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Parmesan cheese, grated (for serving)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the Italian sausage and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the sausage from the skillet and set aside, leaving the drippings in the pan.
  2. In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and bell pepper. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent. Add the minced garlic and zucchini, cooking for an additional 2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Stir in the orzo pasta, diced tomatoes (with their juices), chicken broth, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for about 10-12 minutes, or until the orzo is tender and has absorbed most of the liquid.
  4. Return the cooked sausage to the skillet, stirring to combine. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to heat through. Remove from heat and let it sit for a few minutes before serving.
  5. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve with grated Parmesan cheese on top.

Notes

  • Feel free to use any type of Italian sausage you prefer.
  • For a vegetarian option, substitute sausage with plant-based sausage and use vegetable broth.
  • This dish can be easily customized with your favorite vegetables.
