- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons melted butter for brushing
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Add melted butter, egg, and salt. Whisk until fully combined.
- Add 3 1/2 cups of flour. Mix with dough hook or spoon. Add more flour if needed.
- Knead for 6–8 minutes in mixer or 10 minutes by hand until smooth and slightly tacky.
- Place dough in a greased bowl. Cover and let rise for 30–45 minutes until doubled.
- Punch down dough and divide into 9–12 portions. Shape each into smooth balls.
- Place in a greased 9×13-inch pan. Let rise for 20–30 minutes until puffy.
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 18–22 minutes, until golden brown.
- Brush tops with melted butter. Cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Ensure the milk is not too hot to avoid killing the yeast.
- The dough should feel slightly tacky but not sticky after kneading.
- For best results, let the rolls cool before serving to maintain their fluffiness.
