Description

A flavorful and hearty shrimp boil recipe that combines shrimp, corn, potatoes, and sausage for a delicious feast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds large shrimp, shell-on
  • 4 ears corn, halved
  • 1 pound baby potatoes
  • 1/2 pound smoked sausage, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 2 tablespoons Old Bay seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 lemon, quartered
  • 4 cloves garlic, smashed
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Fill a large pot with water, about halfway full, and place it on the stove over medium-high heat.
  2. Once the water starts to warm up, add the Old Bay seasoning, salt, and black pepper to the pot. Stir to dissolve the seasonings evenly into the water.
  3. Cut the ears of corn in half and set them aside.
  4. Rinse the baby potatoes thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt.
  5. Add the baby potatoes to the pot when the water reaches a rolling boil.
  6. Let the potatoes cook for about 10 to 12 minutes, or until they are just starting to soften.
  7. While the potatoes cook, cut the smoked sausage into 1-inch pieces and set it aside.
  8. Smash the garlic cloves with the side of a knife to release their flavors, then set them aside.
  9. Once the potatoes are nearly done, add the corn halves to the pot.
  10. Continue to cook the potatoes and corn for about 5 minutes, allowing the corn to become tender.
  11. Now, add the smoked sausage pieces to the pot and cook everything together for another 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  12. After the sausage has been cooking for a few minutes, add the shrimp to the pot.
  13. Cook the shrimp for 3 to 5 minutes, or until they turn pink and opaque.
  14. While the shrimp and other ingredients are cooking, melt the butter in a separate pan over low heat.
  15. Once the butter has melted, stir in the chopped parsley and set the butter mixture aside.
  16. Once the shrimp is fully cooked, turn off the heat and use tongs to carefully remove all the ingredients from the pot and place them on a large serving tray or platter.
  17. Pour the melted butter and parsley mixture over the shrimp, potatoes, corn, and sausage.
  18. Cut the lemon into quarters and squeeze the juice over the entire dish, then place the lemon wedges on the tray for garnish.
  19. Serve immediately while everything is hot, and enjoy!

Notes

  • Make sure to not overcook the shrimp; they should be pink and opaque within 3-5 minutes.
  • For extra flavor, add a few sprigs of thyme or bay leaves to the pot when cooking the potatoes and corn.
  • If you prefer spicier heat, include a couple of sliced jalapenos or red pepper flakes to the seasoning mix.
  • Feel free to adjust the seasoning quantities to suit your taste, especially if you like it more or less salty.
  • Serve with a side of crusty bread to soak up the flavorful broth.
