Description

A hearty and comforting dish that combines the classic flavors of Sloppy Joes with a cheesy, casserole-style bake.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 can refrigerated biscuit dough or crescent roll dough
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Cook until vegetables are soft and fragrant.
  3. Stir in tomato paste, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, and brown sugar. Let it simmer for 5–10 minutes until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13 baking dish. Spread the meat mixture in the bottom of the dish.
  5. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the meat evenly.
  6. Top with biscuit or crescent roll dough. Arrange to cover the entire top or use whole biscuits for a pull-apart style.
  7. Brush melted butter over the dough.
  8. Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes until the top is golden and the filling is bubbly.
  9. Let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use crescent dough for a seamless topping or biscuits for a fluffier, rustic texture.
  • Make the sloppy joe sauce from scratch to better control sweetness and spice.
  • Add a dash of hot sauce or chopped jalapeños for a spicy twist.
