Description
A hearty and comforting dish that combines the classic flavors of Sloppy Joes with a cheesy, casserole-style bake.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 bell pepper, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 can refrigerated biscuit dough or crescent roll dough
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
Instructions
- In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Add onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Cook until vegetables are soft and fragrant.
- Stir in tomato paste, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, and brown sugar. Let it simmer for 5–10 minutes until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13 baking dish. Spread the meat mixture in the bottom of the dish.
- Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the meat evenly.
- Top with biscuit or crescent roll dough. Arrange to cover the entire top or use whole biscuits for a pull-apart style.
- Brush melted butter over the dough.
- Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes until the top is golden and the filling is bubbly.
- Let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Use crescent dough for a seamless topping or biscuits for a fluffier, rustic texture.
- Make the sloppy joe sauce from scratch to better control sweetness and spice.
- Add a dash of hot sauce or chopped jalapeños for a spicy twist.
