Description

Southern Fried Cabbage is a delicious and healthy twist on a classic dish, featuring cabbage cooked with turkey bacon and flavorful seasonings.


Ingredients

  • 1 medium head of green cabbage, shredded
  • 4 slices turkey bacon, diced
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, cook the turkey bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon from the skillet, reserving the bacon grease.
  2. Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook in the bacon grease until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  3. Add the shredded cabbage, chicken broth, apple cider vinegar, and smoked paprika to the skillet. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Cover the skillet and cook for about 10-15 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender, stirring occasionally. Stir in the cooked turkey bacon before serving.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, omit the turkey bacon and use 2 tablespoons of olive oil instead of bacon grease.
  • Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a little heat.
