Description
Southern Fried Cabbage is a delicious and healthy twist on a classic dish, featuring cabbage cooked with turkey bacon and flavorful seasonings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 medium head of green cabbage, shredded
- 4 slices turkey bacon, diced
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup chicken broth
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large skillet, cook the turkey bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon from the skillet, reserving the bacon grease.
- Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook in the bacon grease until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Add the shredded cabbage, chicken broth, apple cider vinegar, and smoked paprika to the skillet. Season with salt and pepper.
- Cover the skillet and cook for about 10-15 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender, stirring occasionally. Stir in the cooked turkey bacon before serving.
Notes
- For a vegetarian version, omit the turkey bacon and use 2 tablespoons of olive oil instead of bacon grease.
- Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a little heat.
