Description

Apple Turnovers with Biscuits are a delightful dessert that combines the flakiness of biscuits with a sweet, spiced apple filling, all topped with a simple glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tbsp melted butter (cooled slightly)
  • 4 tbsp light brown sugar (packed)
  • 3 cooking apples (Granny Smith preferred, peeled, cored, and sliced into 1/4-inch pieces)
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg (freshly grated for best flavor)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 can refrigerated biscuits (Pillsbury or similar, 8 count)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (sifted to remove lumps)
  • Water as needed (1-2 tbsp, for desired consistency)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir gently to coat the apples evenly with the spices and sugar. Add the cooled melted butter and toss once more to combine. Set aside.
  2. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil.
  3. Remove the biscuits from the can and gently separate them. On a clean, lightly floured surface, flatten each biscuit into a thin circle about 1/8-inch thick. Place 1-2 tablespoons of the apple filling in the center of each circle, fold in half, and press the edges with a fork to seal.
  4. Arrange the sealed turnovers on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  5. While the turnovers cool, whisk together powdered sugar and vanilla extract in a small bowl. Slowly add water, whisking until you achieve the desired glaze consistency. Drizzle over the warm turnovers.

Notes

  • Allow the apple filling to macerate for better flavor.
  • Do not overstuff the biscuits to prevent them from bursting during baking.
  • Use fresh ingredients for the best taste.
