Description
Deliciously sweet caramelized bananas, perfect as a dessert or topping for ice cream.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar (packed)
- 4 over-ripe bananas (thickly sliced (½ inch))
- 1/2 cup salted sweet cream butter (sliced into pats)
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- vanilla ice cream (optional garnish)
Instructions
- Sprinkle the brown sugar in a shallow baking dish.
- Roll the thickly sliced pieces of banana in the brown sugar.
- Heat the sliced butter in a 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat. As the butter melts, add the vanilla and nutmeg. Stir to combine completely.
- Add the coated slices of banana. Cook for 3 to 3½ minutes, flip, and continue cooking for another 2½ to 3 minutes. Be sure to keep a close eye on the bananas; they can go from caramelized to burned very quickly.
- Remove the skillet from the heat. Serve over vanilla ice cream.
Notes
- Make sure to choose over-ripe bananas for the best sweetness.
- Adjust the cooking time according to the heat of your stove to prevent burning.
- This dish can be served warm or at room temperature.
