- 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- 1–2 tablespoons cold water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Combine the softened butter with shredded cheddar cheese until well blended.
- Whisk together the flour, cayenne pepper, salt, black pepper, and paprika in a separate bowl.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the cheese-butter mixture and mix until a dough forms, adding cold water if needed.
- Roll the dough into a log shape about an inch in diameter and cut it into small pieces.
- Bake the pieces on the prepared baking sheet for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool before serving.
Notes
- Store leftover cheese straws in an airtight container for up to a week.
- These cheese straws can also be frozen before baking for later use.
