Description
Crispy Banana Pepper Fries are a delicious and crunchy snack made from fresh banana peppers, coated in a flavorful batter and deep-fried to perfection.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 large banana peppers, fresh and firm
- 1 cup wheat flour
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
- Salt, as required
- 1 cup cold water
- 3 cups neutral oil for deep frying (canola, vegetable, or peanut)
Instructions
- Wash the banana peppers and wipe them completely dry. Slice the peppers lengthwise from top to bottom, then cut them into long, thin strips resembling french fries.
- In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the wheat flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until combined. Gradually pour in the cold water while whisking continuously until you achieve a smooth batter.
- Pour about 2 to 3 inches of oil into a heavy-bottomed pan or Dutch oven. Heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350-375°F (175-190°C).
- Dip each banana pepper strip into the batter, ensuring it’s fully coated. Let any excess batter drip back into the bowl. Carefully place the battered strips into the hot oil, frying in small batches.
- Fry the pepper strips for 2-4 minutes, flipping occasionally, until the batter is deep golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove the fries and drain on paper towels.
- Serve immediately while hot and crispy with dipping sauces like ranch dressing, spicy aioli, or Parmesan Peppercorn sauce.
Notes
- Ensure the oil has reached the correct temperature before frying for best results.
- You can adjust the salt according to your taste.
- Experiment with different dipping sauces to find your favorite combination.
