A comforting ziti dish loaded with five types of cheese and a rich tomato sauce, perfect for cozy nights in.

- 2 cups ziti pasta
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 2 teaspoons dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1 cup provolone cheese, shredded
- 1 cup parmesan cheese, grated
- 1 cup fontina cheese, shredded
- Fresh basil for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook the ziti pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and garlic, sautéing until fragrant and soft.
- Add crushed tomatoes, dried basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes.
- Combine the cooked ziti, tomato sauce, and ricotta cheese in a large bowl, mixing well.
- Layer half of the ziti mixture in a baking dish, followed by the mozzarella, provolone, parmesan, and fontina cheeses, then finish with the remaining ziti mixture and sprinkle leftover cheeses on top.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 15 minutes until golden and bubbly.
- Garnish with fresh basil if desired, and serve hot.
Notes
This dish can be made ahead of time and stored in the fridge for up to 24 hours before baking.
