Description

Deliciously spicy hot dogs with a sweet and tangy glaze, topped with crunchy slaw.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup sriracha sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water (slurry)
  • 8 beef or pork hot dogs (all-beef recommended)
  • 8 hot dog buns
  • 2 cups shredded green cabbage
  • 1 cup shredded carrot
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Sliced green onions (for garnish, optional)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish, optional)
  • Extra sriracha (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine shredded cabbage, shredded carrot, rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Toss to mix and set aside.
  2. In a small saucepan, combine sriracha, honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Heat over medium until simmering. Mix cornstarch with water, add to sauce, and whisk until thickened. Remove from heat.
  3. Prepare hot dogs by cutting shallow slits on an angle, about 1/2 inch apart, along the length.
  4. Preheat grill to medium-high or heat a skillet. Grill hot dogs for 2-3 minutes per side until heated through and charred.
  5. Brush the firecracker glaze over the hot dogs and grill for an additional minute until it caramelizes.
  6. Toast hot dog buns on the grill, cut side down, for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  7. Assemble hot dogs by placing each glazed hot dog in a toasted bun, topping with crunchy slaw, and garnishing with sliced green onions, sesame seeds, and extra sriracha if desired.
  8. Serve immediately with napkins.

Notes

  • Cut slits in the hot dogs for better glaze absorption.
  • Do not skip the cornstarch slurry for a thicker glaze.
  • Use all-beef hot dogs for enhanced flavor.
  • Prepare slaw and glaze ahead of time and refrigerate.
  • If no grill is available, use a cast iron skillet for cooking.
  • Try adding a fried egg on top for an extra twist.
