Description
Gnocchi alla Sorrentina is a deliciously comforting dish made with soft potato gnocchi baked in a rich tomato sauce and topped with melted mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
Ingredients
Scale
- 500g gnocchi
- 2 cups tomato passata or crushed tomatoes
- 200g fresh mozzarella, torn
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 small bunch fresh basil leaves
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped (optional)
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Heat olive oil in an oven-safe skillet over medium heat. Sauté garlic for 30 seconds until fragrant, then add a few basil leaves to infuse the oil.
- Pour in tomato passata or crushed tomatoes. Season with salt and pepper. Let simmer for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Stir in uncooked gnocchi, making sure they’re coated well in the sauce. Add a splash of water if needed to loosen the sauce.
- Tear mozzarella and scatter it over the top. Sprinkle Parmesan evenly. Do not stir.
- Transfer skillet to the oven and bake for 15–20 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove from oven, garnish with fresh basil, and drizzle with a little olive oil. Serve hot.
Notes
- Feel free to add other herbs like oregano or thyme for additional flavor.
- For a spicier kick, add red pepper flakes to the tomato sauce.
- Make sure to use oven-safe cookware if you intend to bake the dish directly in the skillet.
