Description

A delicious and healthy twist on traditional tacos, this taco salad features extra lean ground beef and plenty of fresh toppings.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 lb. extra lean ground beef
  • ½ tsp fine sea salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 3 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp ground cumin
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp crushed red pepper flakes
  • 3 tbsp water
  • 4 cups chopped romaine lettuce
  • Topping Ideas: crumbled tortilla chips, shredded cheese, guacamole, salsa, sour cream, sliced jalapenos, sliced avocado

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the minced garlic and cook, stirring for 1 minute.
  3. Add in the ground beef, and season with sea salt and pepper. Break it up with a wooden spoon and brown until completely cooked through with no pink left.
  4. Add in the taco seasonings and water and stir well. Bring to a quick boil then reduce the heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally for 5 minutes.
  5. Assemble your salad. Portion out the lettuce into bowls and top with the cooked ground beef. Add your toppings and enjoy.

Notes

  • For added crunch, consider using baked tortilla chips.
  • Customize toppings based on your preference and dietary needs.
