Description

Delicious and crispy sausage rolls filled with caramelized onions and Gruyère cheese, perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 500g ground sausage
  • 2 large yellow onions
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup Gruyère cheese
  • 2 sheets puff pastry
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon milk

Instructions

  1. Heat butter and olive oil in a pan, add sliced onions, and cook slowly until caramelized.
  2. Add garlic and thyme, cook briefly, then let cool.
  3. Mix sausage with Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, onions, and cheese.
  4. Roll out puff pastry and cut into strips.
  5. Place filling along one edge and roll tightly to seal.
  6. Brush with egg wash and lightly score the tops.
  7. Bake at 200°C (400°F) for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian option, substitute sausage with a plant-based sausage.
  • These can be made ahead of time and frozen before baking.
