Ingredients
Scale
- 8 oz. softened cream cheese
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 12 oz. wonton wraps
- 1 egg, whisked with a splash of water
- 48 oz. canola oil (for frying)
- Nonstick Cooking Spray (for baking)
Instructions
- Mix the powdered sugar and cream cheese together until well combined.
- Lay out about 4 wontons at a time and cover the remaining with a dish towel.
- Fill a small bowl with water and set near the wontons.
- Place about a ½ teaspoon of cream cheese mixture in the middle of each wonton.
- Dip your fingers into the whisked egg/water mixture and fold the wontons diagonally to form a triangle, sealing them tightly.
- Dip your fingers back into the water and fold the sides of the triangle together, sealing them securely.
- Repeat until all wontons are filled and wrapped.
- To Fry: Heat 2-3 inches of canola oil in a dutch oven until just under 350 degrees. Fry 4-5 wontons at a time for about 45 seconds to a minute until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
- To Bake: Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Spray a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray and heat for 5 minutes. Place wontons on the sheet, spray lightly with nonstick spray, and bake for 10-12 minutes until crispy and golden brown.
- To Air Fry: Brush wontons with vegetable or canola oil. Air fry at 370 degrees for 7-8 minutes until browned and crispy.
Notes
- Ensure the cream cheese is softened for easy mixing.
- Wontons can be made in advance and frozen before frying or baking.
- Adjust the frying time based on your stove’s heat level to prevent burning.
