Description

Delicious and fluffy Sweet Potato Butter Swim Biscuits topped with a cinnamon honey butter glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup (1 stick) melted unsalted butter
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour (do not pack flour, use spoon and level method)
  • 1 ½ cups whole milk
  • 6 Tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 cup drained canned yams, mashed (measured before mashing – it’s ok if it is not exact – just get close)
  • ¼ cup (½ stick) melted unsalted butter (for glaze)
  • ⅛ cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F.
  2. To a 9×9-inch baking dish add ½ cup melted unsalted butter. Set aside.
  3. In a bowl add flour, milk, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix until combined.
  4. Add the mashed yams and mix until just combined.
  5. Transfer the dough to the baking dish and press evenly. Use melted butter on fingers to spread it.
  6. Cut the dough into 9 squares.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, rotating halfway through.
  8. While baking, prepare the glaze by mixing melted butter, honey, and cinnamon in a bowl.
  9. Pour or brush the glaze on top of the biscuits.
  10. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • The accuracy of ingredients is important for best results.
  • If you don’t have canned yams, you can use freshly cooked sweet potatoes.
  • For a sweeter biscuit, adjust the honey in the glaze to your taste.
